Raising Storytellers
At Takoma Park Cooperative Nursery School, we are raising storytellers who learn to see the world not just as it is, but as it could be. Through stories, our children connect to language, peers, and the natural world, gaining the tools to navigate life with creativity, empathy, and confidence.
Storytelling, The Forever Story
The class journal, “The Forever Story” is amazing from the first page to the last. It’s so interesting to read how the children embraced this method of collective story telling and offered their own, unique and lovely additions to a story that goes on forever.
Poetry With Children
If Margaret Sutphen could write a poem when she was seven that so many of us now know, then of course these children talking about and learning from her poem can and will write their own!
Becoming a reader
While the reading of a book holds great value, holding the story close in order to more fully explore the imaginings of the author's tale is an even greater value. This is how a child becomes a reader.
