Lori McCarthy: Music Teacher

Lori McCarthy has been a private piano teacher for 35 years and maintains a studio in Chevy Chase, Maryland.  Lori holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music, Magna Cum Laude with General Honors and Master of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Maryland.  She is an MTNA Nationally Certified Teacher of Music and is a member of the Early Childhood Music and Movement Association.  Lori is Immediate-Past President, Montgomery County Music Teachers Association, President of the Washington Music Teachers Association, Chair of the Music Theory Testing Program for the Maryland State Music Teachers Association and is a member of Mensa. She was formerly a music teacher at Our Lady of Lourdes School in Bethesda and Director of  Early Childhood Music at The Academy of Fine Arts in Gaithersburg.

It is the curriculum that she helped develop while working at The Academy of Fine Arts that she puts into musical play at our school. All three classes are introduced to a variety of instruments with a focus on keyboards. Singing and movement are always included! Older children are introduced to music composition and create their own compositions. Lori has a multitude of ideas on how to get the children involved in both music making and music appreciation and puts those into actions during each class session.
