Step 1. Getting Ready. Ages and Stages!

There are two basic requirements for joining the Cooperative School. There is are age requirements for children and parent involvement requirements for adults.

Children who will turn 2 years old before September 1st are invited to apply to the Bugs (2s/3s) class. Children who will turn 3 years old before September 1st are invited to apply to the Leaves (3s/4s) class. Children who will turn 4 years old before September 1st are invited to apply for the Tracks (4s/5s) class.

As part of meeting and supporting the cooperative model, parents co-op in their child's class, work on a committee that will support the school, and attend monthly evening meetings. Parents also support the Cooperative School’s flagship fundraiser, The Takoma Park Business Directory & Survival Guide through ad sales, publication, and delivery.

See details about class schedules and tuition rates <here>.

Step 2. Plan Ahead. Attend an Information Session.

Meet our staff and other parents. Learn more about the parent and child curriculum and the benefits of membership. Tour the indoor and outdoor spaces.

These are adult-only events.

Thursday January 17 2019, 7:30-9:00pm

Step 3. Plan Ahead. Attend a Classroom Observation.

Throughout the enrollment season, we invite prospective parents to observe a class in action. Bookings for these observations are taken at the information sessions. Similar to the information session, classroom observations are for adults only.

Step 4. Almost There! Submit an Application on February 1.

Applications are submitted online, along with a one-time, non-refundable application fee of $60 ($90 when applying for twins). Applications submitted without the fee will not be considered.

Tip: Before completing applications, prospective families have found it helpful to attend an information session and classroom observation.

Deadlines for complete applications and deposits are firm. Applications and deposits must be received before the February 1, 3pm deadline to be considered.

Note: The 2019-2020 application will be posted here in late November 2018.

Step 5. What’s Next? Enrollment Decisions.

Initial admissions decisions are made in early February. Applications will be accepted throughout the year to fill any openings.

In guiding enrollment decisions, The Cooperative School looks for applicants that will

  • Sustain the School’s parent-participatory model and mission through volunteer service in the classroom and on committees that support the School’s day-to-day operations and growth.

  • Create class rosters that are balanced in age and reflect a diverse community.

Applicants from the previous school year who would like to be considered in the next admissions cycle should contact admissions@tpcns.org to submit another application. The application fee will be waived.
